Venus in Capricorn (January 8 - February 1)
/Venus enters Capricorn around 10:40am (EST) this morning, just a few hours after Mercury enters Aquarius. Within the past 48 hours, we've had three of the seven traditional planets change signs (and the moon doesn't really count, since she changes signs ever 2.5 days). This is a huuuuuge energetic shift, as the planets shift their focus to different parts of our birth charts.
Venus is in Capricorn from Jan 8 to February 1. During this transit, Venus will form trines to Mars and Uranus in Taurus, sextile Neptune in Pisces, before finally making a conjunction with Pluto at 25° Capricorn and then heading into Aquarius. Venus' transit through Capricorn is particularly important this month, because on December 19, 2021, Venus will station retrograde from 26°-11° Capricorn.
I'll talk much more about Venus retrograde cycle when we're closer to the date, but it's worth flagging that whatever Venus in Capricorn activates in your birth chart will undergo a deep process of internal review and reflection later this year. Look at what house contains Capricorn in your chart (and at your natal Venus and Saturn placements) for more information about what this might stir for you.
Saturn rules the sign of Capricorn, and so, whenever Venus is in Capricorn, we have Venus entering Saturn's realm, and thus, an interplay between Venus significations and Saturn significations. Venus' strength lies in building relationships, creating harmony and peace, and connecting with others. Her job is to help us build, grow and create, all with an eye towards beauty, comfort and harmony. Venus is a benefic planet, which means she brings things to our lives that tend to be "good": fertile soil, beautiful music, laughter and connection, friendship, love, pleasure. As a night sect planet, Venus is associated with the material world, the pleasures we enjoy via our senses and our bodies (as opposed to Jupiter, which is associated with more spiritual pleasures, such as religion and divination).
Saturn, on the other hand, brings up themes of structure, limits and boundaries. As the slowest moving traditional planet and the last visible planet in the sky, Saturn literally ruled the border between life and death, the material and the eternal. Saturn is thus associated with death, old age, maturity, structure, discipline and hard work. Saturn represents the walls we form between ourselves and other people — what belongs to us, and us alone, vs what we are willing to share with others.
When transiting Venus moves through Saturn's sign, we are being invited to bring in extra warmth, connection and relational energy to the parts of our lives where we tend to close off. Themes of toughness vs softness, vulnerability vs withholding abound during this time. Where do you withhold affection because you are afraid of being rejected? Where have you built up walls around past hurts?
To get more information about how this transit might manifest in your life, take a look at your birth chart and look at what House contains Capricorn. This part of your life is going to get some extra love and attention from Venus this month. Where can you try to enjoy this pleasure, rather than shut it off because you feel you don't deserve it?
As soon as Venus enters Capricorn, she'll enter a trine with Mars in Taurus. This energy can help motivate, agitate and stir up your emotions. If you have been looking for the energy to break through some of those walls, you might finally find the passion to do so this week. Venus will trine Uranus on the New Moon (January 13), so that could be an extremely potent time to set intentions around your relationships for radical openness, authenticity and vulnerability.
