Mars in Gemini | August 20 - March 25
/On Friday, August 20, Mars enters Gemini, where it will where it will be for the next SEVEN MONTHS!
Normally Mars spends only six weeks in a zodiac sign, so this is a very unusual occurrence.
The reason for this extra-long stay is because of Mars’ upcoming retrograde. From October 30, 2022 to January 12, 2023, Mars will be travelling backwards through the sky from 25° to 8° Gemini. Mars won’t leave Gemini will March 25, 2023! That is a very long time to have Mars in one section of the sky.
There are still a couple of months before the retrograde, but as soon as Mars enters Gemini, you will likely get a preview for what the Mars Retrograde will bring up for you. So it’s important to start observing and reflecting on what Mars in Gemini means for you right now — it will help you prepare for the retrograde this fall.
All of the things, all at once
Mars in Gemini can be very scattered. Mars in Gemini wants to do all of the things, all at once. Mars represents our energy and drive, and in Gemini, that energy goes in all different directions. You might be more easily distracted right now, possessed by a bunch of different ideas and unsure of where to direct your focus. You have so many opportunities, it can be hard to pick just one! If you don’t harness this energy with a clear vision or single goal, you can waste a lot of time going in circles.
Multitask like it’s your day job
Mars also speeds up when in Gemini. You might move faster than usual, with so ideas overflowing, it’s hard to keep up with them. This can be a productive period of writing, communicating, recording podcasts, having epic conversations, etc. But you might also find yourself “talking first and thinking later” — there isn’t a lot of time for self-reflection and careful consideration when you are talking a million miles a minute.
Tips for Mars in Gemini (and Mars retrograde)
When I talk about Mars in Gemini with clients, my biggest tip is: SLOW DOWN and say NO to things. The biggest problem of this transit is saying “yes” to everything and becoming over-committed. Despite what Mars in Gemini thinks, it isn’t actually possible to do everything at once.
Before Mars stations retrograde, try to take as much off your plate as possible. Mars retrograde will review and restructure how you are using your energy — so if you do try to do it all, Mars will likely force you to drop something eventually.
Remember, you don’t have to do everything all at once — ease into this energy. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini and therefore the planet in charge of Mars, is about to oppose Neptune, meaning you likely won’t have a clear direction or sense of purpose right away. Give yourself some time to settle into this energy before taking on new challenges.
How will this energy affect you?
Mars in Gemini will be most important for people who have Mutable Rising Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces), or people who have important planets or points in those signs (especially the Sun, Moon and Ascendant). If you have planets/points in Gemini between 8° and 25°, that means you’ll have three opportunities to see the impact Mars in Gemini makes on your life.
